Instead of setting separate budgets for each ad set, you set one budget at the campaign level, and Meta decides which ad set should receive more or less money based on performance.

It is useful for beginners because it reduces manual work and helps you get maximum results with minimal budget wastage.

How Campaign Budget Optimization Works

When CBO is turned ON:

  • Meta tests all your ad sets
  • Finds which audience is performing better
  • Sends more budget to the ad sets generating better results
  • Reduces budget for poor-performing ad sets

Example:

  5. Set your daily or lifetime budget
  6. Create your ad sets and ads

Simple Practical Example

If you’re promoting a digital marketing course, and you run two ad sets:

  • Ad Set A: Instagram Reels
  • Ad Set B: Facebook Feed

Budget: ₹500/day

Meta will spend more money on the platform where you get cheaper leads.
If Instagram Reels gives ₹25 per lead and Facebook gives ₹40 per lead, CBO automatically shifts more budget to Instagram Reels.
