How to Set Up a Payment Method in Meta Ads Manager
Running Facebook and Instagram ads requires a valid payment method in Meta Ads Manager. Without it, your campaigns won’t run. Setting up a payment method is simple, secure, and can be done in a few steps.
This guide explains how to add your payment method and provides a real-world example to make it easy for beginners to follow.
Why You Need a Payment Method
Adding a payment method allows Meta to charge for your ads automatically. It also ensures your campaigns run smoothly, and you can track ad spending and invoices.
You can use:
- Credit/Debit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)
- PayPal
- Bank Account (depends on your country)
- Manual Payment (if available)
Step 1: Open Meta Ads Manager
- Log in to your Meta Business Account
- Go to Ads Manager
- Click on the Payment Settings tab
Step 2: Add a Payment Method
- Click Add Payment Method
- Choose your preferred method (Card, PayPal, Bank Account)
- Enter required details:
- Card number, expiration date, CVV
- PayPal email
- Bank details
- Card number, expiration date, CVV
- Click Continue → Save
Step 3: Set Primary Payment Method (Optional)
If you have multiple methods, select the one you want as primary for ad payments. Meta will charge this method first.
Step 4: Verify Your Payment
Meta may perform a small verification charge. Check your account to confirm. Once verified, your account is ready to run campaigns.
Example
Suppose you run a small online store in Chennai. You want to run an Instagram ad to promote a new product.
- Log in to Ads Manager → Payment Settings → Add Card
- Enter your credit card details → Save
- Run your ad campaign without interruption
Now, Meta automatically deducts the cost from your card each time your ads run.
Tips for Beginners
- Keep a backup payment method to avoid ad interruptions
- Regularly review your billing threshold and payment history
- Make sure your payment method is valid for international transactions if needed
